Rachel Smith, MS, LPC
Title: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Hi, I’m Rachel! I’m so glad you’re making time for yourself! While taking the plunge into counseling can be intimidating, I do my best to offer a warm, safe, non-judgmental, and authentic place to share what’s on your mind. I look forward to our work together.
Educational Background:
After earning a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology at Eastern University with a minor in Gender Studies, Rachel went on to earn her Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Villanova University. While completing her master’s degree, Rachel served as a research assistant, igniting a passion for ongoing postgraduate education in an ever-expanding field.
Rachel has experience working in the addiction and recovery field and is passionate about reducing stigma around substance use. Rachel also works with adolescents, teens, adults, and older adults who are navigating:
Trauma and PTSD
Substance Use
Relationship issues
Family conflict
Anxiety
Depression
Bipolar Disorder
Schizoaffective and Schizophrenic Disorders
Life transitions
Therapeutic Approaches:
Rachel collaborates with her clients to find an approach that resonates with them. These approaches may include:
Person-Centered: You are the expert on your own life! But having an empathetic and non-judgmental ear can help you hear and follow your own internal wisdom.
Somatic Therapy:
In addition to Rachel’s clinical degree, she is a certified 200-hour yoga teacher (RYT-200). She works from a holistic and somatic perspective, integrating body, mind, and spirit. Work with her may include meditation, breath-work, and listening to the intelligence of your body.
EMDR:
Rachel is trained in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. This approach alleviates the distressing symptoms of traumatic memories using bilateral stimulation.
Attachment Theory:
This approach examines how early relational attachments continue to shape patterns of relational behavior.
Get to know me:
Outside of work, I love to travel (15 countries and counting), find new recipes to try out on anyone willing, read everything I can get my hands on, and spend time with my family.
